Selenium - an essential trace element
Selenium belongs to the group of minerals and is an essential trace element. This means that on the one hand it is vital and on the other hand, it is only needed in traces by the body. However, this small amount must be supplied regularly with food, as the body cannot produce selenium itself.
Even though the human body only needs small amounts of selenium, selenium is indispensable as an essential trace element for humans. In fact, selenium performs numerous tasks in our organism. For example, selenium has an important role in cell and energy metabolism and thus also contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and nails. Selenium also contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, to normal spermatogenesis in men and to normal functioning of the immune system. Due to its high reactivity with oxygen in animals and humans, it also plays an important role in protecting cell membranes from oxidative stress
Since the human body cannot produce minerals by itself, we must therefore consume selenium in sufficient quantities through our daily diet or a high-quality food supplement.
The product Selenium Compact from GSE contains 55 µg selenium in the daily recommended intake of 1 tablet, which corresponds to 100%(1) of the recommended daily intake for an adult person ((1)according to VO(EG) 1169/2011).
