Information about the origin of Laricio pines:
The Laricio pine is a subspecies of the black pine (Pinus nigra), which grows wild in Corsica at altitudes of 1,200 metres and above. In order to ensure that only the branches of the Laricio pine are distilled, the harvest takes place at an altitude of 2,000 metres. Only the Laricio pine grows from this height. The oil of the wild Laricio pine is Ecocert certified and is released by the ONF (Office national des fôrets) in Corsica. The authority ensures that only branches that grow downwards at a certain time and make paths impassable are used for distillation. No extra trees are felled for distillation. The Laricio pine has a light and loose crown, whereas the trunk stretches straight as a candle towards the sky. The bark is light grey and deeply cracked, the bark is scaly and lighter than the black pine. The tree can live up to 1,000 years.
