Rosemary, an evergreen shrub and a traditional medicinal and aromatic plant, has its roots in the Mediterranean region and prefers calcareous, sun-drenched places. Typical of the garrigue and maquis, rosemary is also cultivated as a spice. In ancient times, rosemary was considered to be dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite and stood for fidelity. It was an ingredient in the historic "Hungarian Water", one of the oldest known perfumes. Rosemary is also used in the spice mixture "Herbs of Provence" and serves as an important basis in perfumery, cosmetics and pharmacy.
