The tea tree, an evergreen plant, does not belong to the tea bush family (Camellia sinensis), but is a myrtle plant from Australia. Of the more than 300 species of Melaleuca, only Melaleuca alternifolia produces the special tea tree or tea tree oil. When evaluating the ingredients, particular attention is paid to the cineole and terpinen-4-ol content. High quality is defined by a cineole content of less than 5 % and a terpinen-4-ol content of over 30 %, which combines skin compatibility with effective action.
